Yes - I’m still making kitty cat toys!

I can’t believe we’ve been doing this since 2012.  It all started with my daughter Sofie making a couple of toys for our own cat.  I was selling my Bits Of Fiber items at a Farmers Market in The Plains at the time and told her she should take some of those toys and try to sell them.  And selling we did!  I also had her set up her own Etsy shop which we named MauveMoose.  Funny thing is that for a while she wanted to change it to MauveMice or MauveMouse but we had invested into the MauveMoose name with business cards etc so we decided to keep it as MauveMoose.  Anyways, we thought we were nuts for taking our first large wholesale order of 475 strawberry catnip toys until we ended up making 5400, yup you are reading correctly ... 5 4 0 0 cat toys we made ... by hand!! We did use the sewing machine to stitch them but the cutting, filling, stuffing and sewing them once filled was all done by hand.  We did ask a couple of friends to help us out with that order.  But that was the end of the large wholesale orders.  Me working full time, running my other Etsy shop, Bits of Fiber,  Sofie going to school etc we decided to focus on just the retail part of the business.  As time moves on, life moves on ... a lot has happened since 2012.  My dear husband passed away, I sold and purchased another house, moved to a totally different part of Virginia and I’m planning on retiring by 2021.  I’m looking forward to chapter #3 of my life that I hope will be filled with lots and lots of new projects, new people and new adventures and no need to panic ... I’ll continue making cat toys in between.

More mice, an amigurumi owl and a pair of knitted red baby booties

We decided to add some more plaid mice to the MauveMoose shop of my daughter.  Then I totally forgot about this little amigurumi owl I had made when I was in Belgium visiting my mom earlier this year.  So you can now find him in my BitsOfFiber shop where he is for sale.  Also added a pair of red baby booties perfect for this season since they have snowflakes on them.

The patterns listed here below by Leisure Arts - More Cute Little Animals to Crochet are darling!  I have this book and will definitely make a couple of these.  Now you must know when I crochet (or knit, sew or whatever craft I'm doing) I hate following a set pattern so I usually end up changing things as I go along making something.  Of course the bad part about that is since I hardly ever write down what I change I always end up with some real one-of-a-kind items!  I have pushed myself to write things down especially when I'm making baby booties since I need to make two that need to be exactly the same size.

There are mice in the house!

All of our feline friends need one of these so check them out, we got one (or two or three or more) for every kind of kitty cat.  We even have a rough and tough kind for the tomcat.  That one we figured is perfect to give to like your boyfriend, husband, dad, brother or whomever who doesn't care for frilly things for his cat so the one made out of jeans material would be perfect for him.  I personally think the tie dye one is really cool but then again I used to be a wanna-be hippy back in the days so that's probably why.

We (my daughter and I) make these also without catnip so for those of you who don't want to expose your kitty to the catnip that's an option.  These that are made without the catnip also make great toys for kids to play with.  They make for really cute pocket pets.  Every kid needs a mouse in his or her pocket!  We can make them in different colors just shoot us an e-mail with what it is you are looking for and we will try to fulfill your request(s).

So here are the latest ones we've added to the shop:

This one does NOT have catnip and can be a child toy.

The MauveMoose Etsy shop

My daughter just opened her own Etsy shop today.  She named it MauveMoose and is selling catnip mice.  She will be adding more items as time moves on.  But for now here is the link http://www.etsy.com/shop/MauveMoose?ref=seller_info_count to her shop and pictures of the mice.  Aren't they cute!  Every kitty needs one of these, or a couple!
