Frustration running on high and treasuries

It's been a week since my surgery.  Doing pretty good considering.  I slept in my bed last night, woke up every couple of hours but I'm getting used to that by now.  Got to move that arm to prevent it from freezing up so I make myself get up to move around, getting that sling off and do my exercises.   Then back to bed, staring at my arm sticking up in the air trying to get comfy with that stupid belt which has metal in it to keep my arm in place.  Can't really feel the metal since they designed it with padding in all the right places but it still is a royal pain in the derriere when you have to sleep with it on.

Got up at 5:30 am which is my normal hour when I go to work and was pretty proud of myself I slept in our bed, no more couch or sofa for me for now.  And then it hit me, highly frustrated with it all.   There are a million things to get done in and around the house, with my on-line shop and business and I have all the time in the world to do it now ... except I can't ... not with my broken wing!  Good thing my hubby understands were I'm coming from, he has been there himself and has been waiting for me to hit this point.  So we had a good chat, a box of Kleenex and a half-way hug (because I can not even hug properly with that damn contraption on!) later he left for work.  So here I am left with all this freedom and not much I can do ... my house is my prison for now.

It's a couple hours later by now ... I'm done feeling sorry for myself.  I did manage to make a couple of treasuries on Etsy which I will share.  I have some more photos to adjust so I can list the items in Sofie's shop.   My broken wing is mending which is a good thing, I just have to accept its going to take time.

Oh so soft Mice baby booties and my broken wing

So I tried sleeping in our bed 2 nights ago but that only lasted for a couple of hours.   I did prop myself up with strategically placed pillows but I found myself awake an hour later with my broken wing (as my husband calls it) hurting.  So off I went downstairs this time trying out the big couch instead of the sofa chair which had been working for me its just that I really wanted to sleep in a lower position.  So for these past 2 nights I've been sleeping on the big sofa.  My slinged arm wedged between the back of the sofa, pillows and my body.   I try not to get frustrated but I must say it's driving me nuts sometimes.   I usually get up and go non-stop all day long doing things but this broken wing has really messed up my speed.  I know its only temporary (I hope!) and pretty soon (well if you consider 3 months to be soon!) I'll be able to fly again using both of my wings.

Didn't take any pain meds yesterday.  I'm not trying to be a tough cookie, they put me to sleep which was fine for the first couple of days, believe me I needed them then for the pain.  The pain I get now is mostly when I do my PT.  I do get a dull ache or pinches sometimes not doing anything at all but those only last for a short time.  Still using ice packs which are probably helping to control the pain as well.

I'm so glad I still have bunches of items to list in our shops since I can use the PC with one hand for now.  So for today I listed these oh so soft mice baby shoes I made.

Day 4 after rotator cuff surgery

Had my rotator cuff and slap repair done on Friday.  Been sleeping on the sofa propped up and wedged in so I don't move my arm which is resting in a sling.   Pain hasn't been too bad.  I opted for a nerve block when they did the surgery which lasted for 12+ hours after the surgery.   By then I had taken the oral pain Meds they gave me which did the job when the nerve block stopped working.   Only taking pain Meds now before taking a shower.  This morning I was hurting when I woke up but I think it was because I did all my excersizes yesterday (passive ones for now) and slept for 5 hours straight without moving my arm so it was pretty stiff and letting me know.    After taking it out of the sling doing my excersizes it felt much better again.

Tried knitting a couple of rows with the project laying in my lap and just holding it with my sore arm (left one) and do all the work with my right one.   It works but I certainly don't want to mess anything up so that's all I do 1-2 rows a day.   Crocheting won't be on my to do list for a while, tried it very carefully but that's a no go for sure for now.   Needle felting I will attempt today just have to figure a way on how to hold it.    Drawing and painting seems to be the more logical thing to do for now to keep myself busy besides reading.   I still have some items I need to list in my shop so that's something else I can do for now.

I read a lot about rotator cuff surgery before I had mine done so I know what to expect and yes it is painful especially the PT part but I'm hoping this will pass and by the time spring arrives I'll be knitting, crocheting, felting and making signs again without being in pain.

Farmers Market - Sunday, October 14, 2012

Just wanted to let you know that I WILL be at the market this coming Sunday, October 14th.  This will be my last regular market for the season as I'm going to need surgery on my shoulder.   I'm not sure yet if I will be able to attend the Christmas Market(s) at the Archwood Green Barns which are going to be in December.  It all depends on how I'll be doing by then.   I managed to tear my Labrum in my left shoulder so they are going to fix it and will also give my rotator cuff a tune-up.   I'll be in a sling for 6 weeks which I'm not looking forward to.  I'm sure I'll figure out a way to knit and crochet with that sling on as long as my PT lets me!  I'm not going to be making any nuno felted scarves till I'm completely healed.  I know there are other ways to make them since I roll all mine by hand but I feel I have other things I like to explore during this down time.  So stay tuned!

As far as the Holiday (Christmas) Market(s), I will definitely put something here on my blog about it so come back and visit my blog for more info in the next couple of weeks.

Unique gift for those feline lovers - felted cat fur/hair earrings

Our cat Azzie (Azriel) became part of our family when we were living in Alice Springs, Australia.  We adopted her from a friend of ours and when we moved back to the US she came along.  She ended up spending 3 weeks in a kennel in Sydney before she finally flew to Los Angeles where we picked her up.  She's been with us for 8 years now.  She's always been an indoor cat who loves to get brushed.  Since she seems to shed year round brushing her is a good thing.  If we don't brush her she gets matted even though she is a short hair cat. Needless to say I collect lots of hair from her so one day when I was brushing her I realized how good that fur felts so I when ahead and tried turning it into a bead, and voila!   Here you have it ... Azzie earrings!  I've been selling them at the Farmers Market and now I just listed them in Sofie's shop.  If you want to see more photos and are interested in purchasing a pair hop on over and check it out.  I have some more I will add in the next couple of weeks.  Now if you have a kitty of your own that sheds a lot and would love to get a pair of earrings made from her or his fur send me an e-mail and lets discuss.  I can felt with lots of different fibers but depending on what the hair/fur looks and feels like it's not always possible to felt with it so best thing to do is contact me and let's chat.

A beautiful autumn brown orangy pink nuno felted scarf

This one I made using a dark brown gauze silk fabric as the base which you can still see peeking through the felted parts.  I used a wool art yarn which has pink and orange colors running through it.  I used a tinted merino sheep's fleece in the middle and a nice brown for the edges.  The backside has a design for which I used a deep reddish pencil roving with a very fine layer of deep brown sheep's fleece.  This is a generously sized scarf which is more like a shawl I guess.  Will be taking it to the market on Sunday.  If you are interested in holding it for you or purchasing it on-line please convo me and we can figure out how to go about doing that.
