Springy treasuries

I'm happy to share some more treasuries with you featuring my items together with lots of other beautiful things from many Etsy shops. Again, many thanks to all the curators of these treasuries for including my stuff! While I'm gone to Belgium I won't be able to blog much but when I get back I'll jump right back into blogging.

Here we go ...
This first one is called "Here comes the Easter bunny" featuring my needle felted bunny by http://www.etsy.com/shop/DaniCalve This is what she says about her shop "Nature and Color are my muses~they bring comfort and vibrance to my life as I hope they will do for you.
Let me bring you a conversational piece of art to grace your neck, for your lapel or even on your wall and into your world. Take a walk through my paintings, relax on a pillow and don't forget to wear a flower in your hair." The treasury she made has some lovely Easter bunnies and other Easter goodies listed. CLick on the items in the treasury to take you to the shop who made it and sells the item.

Next is a treasury called "Peace Love and Happiness" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/FIApdx featuring my hand painted wooden gift tag. In the curator shop you will find unique, not so ordinary, quirky things created mostly from Eco-Fi felt (100% vegan & recycled material), fleece and cotton fabric. She loves making plushes, pins, toys, buttons housewares, phone/mP3 cases & everyday life accessories composed of vivacious colors. All of the items are hand sewn, she doesn't use a sewing machine.

Next is a treasury called "Birds, bees, flower trees" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/eleuthera featuring my needle felted bird named Ernie! I love the paintings for sale in the shop of the curator, the shoe paintings are my favorite. Her shop announcement states: "shoes, cows and Swedish landscapes delivered worldwide". I love that!

Next up is a treasury called "Farm Fresh Fantasy" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/HangingTreasures featuring my striped knitted acorn baby hat. The curator shop you will find beautiful earring frames. This is her shop announcement: "Like many women, I've got more jewelery than I can practically store in my jewelery box. One day I got tired of fishing around for my favorite earrings and decided to try something new. I made my first earring frame and loved it so much I started making them for all the women that I love. The response was so overwhelming that I decided to start selling them so that more women would have a chance to display their jewelery in a beautiful and practical way." The treasury is part of the nonteamchallenge 25. She incorporated the inspiration item using all farm related items which makes me want to jump up and run to a farmers market!

Last one for today (but not least!) is a treasury called "Love comes in all shapes and sizes" by featuring my striped baby hat, which seems to be a popular item for people to use in their treasuries. In the curator's shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/inspiredbymckenna you will find some really pretty nogin wear and cool vintage items.

Granny squares and Easter love

I finally got my act together and finished this blanket. It makes for a great baby blanket or would also work for a person in a wheel chair. The colors I used are not the typical baby colors so you could really use it anywhere in the house or on a porch. I hadn't made granny squares in a long time but when I looked at my basket of yarns I noticed how pretty those colors looked together. I just listed it in my baby shop so go visit my shop for more pictures and info on this blanket.

I've been thinking about Easter and therefor put together another treasury with lots of Easter related items. I have some more treasuries to share with you tomorrow but this is it for now.

Featured in so many!

I want to thank all the Etsy artists who have featured any (and many!) of my items in their lovely treasuries. If I ever miss featuring your treasury please e-mail me and I'll make sure I post it. Nonteamchallenge 24 treasuries

Here is the treasury I made using the red crocheted doily from http://www.etsy.com/shop/HomespunHandmaiden?ref=seller_info who was the winner of the #23 challenge last week.

I wasn't too sure which direction to go into with the red doily as the inspiration item. As I couldn't think of anything right away I just started searching for items with the colors represented in the entire photo, not just the red doily and this is what I came up with.

This next treasury was made by my friend Missie (who sells beautiful handcrafted jewelry in her Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/MissieRabdau?ref=pr_shop_more ) using the same inspiration item but as you can see she took a different approach to make hers. I just adore the baby jacket and the ballerina shoes aren't they just darling!

More treasuries lined up for tomorrow so stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by.

A peachy kinda hat!

Well I wasn't sure how this little hat was going to turn out. I always get going with a certain picture in my head and by the time I'm halfway through it ... the picture has changed ... and sometimes I have no idea if whatever I'm working on will still work out looking anyway decent. Originally I was going to rip some fabric into strips and use them to weave through the middle section of this little hat and also to make a topper of some kind but that didn't work out unless I was going to zigzag all those strips and I really didn't feel like doing that. So I went digging in my piles of yarn and found this ribbon yarn that could work better ... and it did. Here is my latest little baby hat I put into my shop today so go check it out to have a closer look.

A pretty treasury to cheer me up ... Angels on a Cloud

Most of the time I'm a cheery optimistic person but yesterday was one of those days where everything just added up and even the pretty moon didn't cheer me up so I decided to make a pretty treasury, just to make me feel a bit happier ... and it did. Here it is, I called it Angels on a Cloud. I figured it was an appropriate fit for all the beautiful items I picked.

Sprained wrist and my nonteamchallenge 23 treasury

Ok, I've talked about our aquarium on my blog before. The thing is ... I hate cleaning the darn thing, always have always will ... but it needs to get done ... so I did late last night. Don't ask me how I did it but I managed to sprain my wrist doing it! Of course that doesn't help my love for that tank! ha Needless to say I can not crochet, knit, felt, sew etc. because of it but I did find out I can type ok. As long as I don't make a certain move I can manage and was able to make my treasury for this week's entry into the nonteamchallenge 23. The inspiration item is the Spring Clean Framed Textile Art from http://www.etsy.com/shop/Emilyparkesart?ref=seller_info
Can't wait to see everybody else's entries. It's always so much fun to see what all the other artists create all based on the same item but they all end up being so different in their own way. Make sure you visit all the other shops included in this treasury, all kinds of cool items to check out.

My own entry for the nonteamchallenge 22

I got so excited about all the treasuries my items were featured in I totally forgot to post the entry I made for this challenge! I like picking colors that stand out from the usual things people pick, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This time, chocolate and purple seem to work. Here is my entry named "What a hoot!" for this week's nonteamchallenge 22.

Nonteamchallenge 22 treasuries

Wow, pretty amazing getting featured in all these beautiful treasuries for the non-team challenge 22 treasuries on Etsy. First one is called "For the love of owls" by my friend Missie http://www.etsy.com/shop/MissieRabdau who has a lovely shop on Etsy selling beautiful jewelry she makes so make sure you go and check out what she has to offer. Meet Lillie an itty bitty needle felted hamster

So here she is ... Lillie an itty bitty little thing, she measures only 1 1/2 inches long! I figured I needed to make a little critter to move into this critter onion I had made. She's all finished and ready to go so if you're looking for that special little gift for a child over 3 yrs old or a grown up who appreciates having a little pocket pet, this one is for you! I just listed her in my Etsy shop so go visit the shop to see more pictures of Lillie and her little house.

A cute little critter onion and birds nest jewelry

I try to focus on smaller things to make for now due to lack of time. I spent my 30 min lunches at work either crocheting or knitting. While I'm eating I usually catch up on reading my favorite arts and craft magazines, blogs or on-line info. So, this little colorful critter onion I made during 2 of my lunches and it will be up for sale in my PurplePlatypus shop later this w/end. This little hut is made with 100% cotton rope but since it's dyed in pink and blue and didn't say what it was dyed with I assume it might not be safe for a robo hamster to digest so this one is for sale in my shop as a play toy for children, assuming they are NOT going to chew and eat the rope it's made of. I will be making more critter onions for the real little pets but those will all be in natural rope, not dyed.

Then I also made some of these cute wire birds nests and made them into a pair of earrings and a necklace. The purple little bows are tied but also glued on so they stay put. I'm planning on making some more but without gluing the bows that way you can remove them and change them with a different color ribbon. The set is up for sale in my PurplePlatypus shop.

Got lots of treasuries to share but that's for later today. Have to get some laundry done first, then I get more time to play.

Meet me on the dark side?

So off I went finding more lovely creations by other Etsy artists to create yet another treasury and this is what I came up with.

Lots of greens and blues

Wow, looks like my aqua baby booties are having a great week! They ended up getting featured in 3 treasuries.

In this first treasury called "Blue and gold banquet" my felt mixed media baby room decor frame got featured by http://www.etsy.com/shop/MHaynes2009 who sells beads, ribbons, charms and other craft supplies. You will also find scrapbooks and cards in her lovely Etsy shop so make sure you go visit her store if you're looking for supplies.

This one called "Minted" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/LoveandCherish has my aqua baby booties listed, those colors of green all put together are gorgeous. In her shop you will find beautiful hair accessories and jewelry.

Next one is called "One of these things is not like the others" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/ReNuBoutique# featuring my booties again. Cute title and idea for this treasury, again beautiful colors of green. She makes and sells beautiful jewelry and accessories made from repurposed / recycled sweaters, scraps of leather and other fabrics, metal, glass, old jewelry, old and new beads and buttons. The ReNu Boutique is an expression of love of reclaimed materials and it explores the borders of old and new. A must visit.

Next treasury is named "Spring Greens" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/eleuthera also featuring my baby booties. Again beautiful green with popping lime colors in that treasury, really pretty I must say. In her shop you will find the coolest paintings of shoes and landscapes! I'm in love with all the shoe paintings, what a cool idea! So make sure you visit that shop.

I'm working on some wire birds nest charms ... more about that later.

Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla?

So, which one of these do you prefer? Had fun making this treasury. Not all of these items are edible but I think they all do look delicious.

Needle Felted Embroidered Saint Patricks Day Brooch

I'm a sign shop artist during the day so while I'm painting, cutting boards or drawing my mind goes 100 miles per hour thinking of all the things I want to make when I get home. Only problem with that is I never have enough hours in a day to get to all those projects racing through my head. I thought of jotting those ideas down but if I did that I'd only get more frustrated not being able to get to them all. So, I usually try to think of one, appropriate for the time of the year if it's near a holiday. I've been wanting to make something for St. Patty's day, first I thought of a pincushion but then I thought a brooch would be better, it's smaller and wouldn't take me as long to make. I cut the pieces last night, did the needle felting part before going to bed, put the beads, thread and needles in a sandwich baggie and dropped it in my bag I take to work. So today during my lunch (30 min.) I was able to sew all the beads on it and when I got home I put some stuffing in it and embroidered the edges and voila ... enough daylight left to take some pictures to get it into my shop. While looking through my button box I found a couple other really cool buttons I could use to make another pretty brooch, except I'm going to run out of time ... it's already March 5th, St. Patty's day is only 12 days away ... I guess I better start working on those Easter projects, or maybe I just need to skip a couple of holidays and start thinking about fall projects ... that way I'm ahead of the game and don't need to stress myself out!

Nonteamchallenge 21 treasury on Etsy

And here is my entry for this week's nonteamchallenge 21 treasury. The inspiration item is a beautiful leather folio/case for an Ipad, sketchbook, etc. steampunk handmade gadget sleeve made from khaki leather and an antique skeleton key. Makes for a really unique gift idea. Check out the shop for more cool items: http://www.etsy.com/shop/RuneLeather?ref=seller_info

I had made my treasury and totally hit the wrong key ... which meant ... I lost the darn thing! Like a dummy I forgot to save it and it was gone ... an entire 30 min of putting it together lost. So, I started over and just for the heck of it I totally changed my choices on this one ... not sure why ... I just did. I must say I do like this 2nd one much better then the first one ... so again ... I guess it was meant to be. Enjoy!

Nuno needle felted blue water scarf

Finally finished this scarf I started months ago! I actually started making this by needle felting it by hand while at the Farmers Market BUT THEN .... Santa gave me a needle felting machine and ta daaaaaaa, this makes my life in the felting world just a wee bit easier I must say. It still takes a long time doing it by machine versus by hand but the good thing is that it certainly saves me from getting tennis elbow again from doing all the needling by hand which is a lot of repetitive movement. Now if they could only come up with a way to make needle felting 3D sculptures a bit easier on the wrists and/or elbows I'd be a really happy camper. That's also one of the main reasons I constantly switch back and forth between making needle felted sculptures, knitting, crocheting, sewing, drawing, painting etc. It's all done with my hands but for each one you make different movements which saves me from getting tennis elbow and carpal tunnel.

I just listed this scarf in my PurplePlatypus shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/69321670/nuno-needle-felted-blue-water-scarf if you're interested in purchasing it.

Featured on KIDindependent - A really cool site for mums, babies and kids!

Check this out http://kidindependent.com/category/oddball-alphabet/ . I was so excited to find my baby shoes featured on here. Oatmeal with a touch of green

I love oatmeal but it has to be made with milk, not water and just a bit of raw sugar ... hmmm I think I will have to make some for breakfast tomorrow morning. It was the thought of oatmeal that made me come up with the idea to make this treasury, "Oatmeal with a touch of green". The green part didn't have anything to do with the eating part ... that kinda popped into my head thinking of St. Patrick's day. So here it is:

Little felted bird in some lovely treasuries

My little felted bird has made it into two lovely treasuries this week!

This first one is called "Spring Wings" made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/FavorFancyAndFun who sells fun favor and gift boxes in her Etsy store so make sure you have a look at what she sells.

The second one is called "Spring Flowers" another fun, fresh and springy treasury.

Today I was able to finish one of the needle felted scarves I've been working on. It's drying right now so I haven't been able to take pictures of it yet. The material was a very pretty variegated silky blue with a dark blue chain stitch design running through it. I used a variegated sheep fleece in lovely purple, blue and lime colors. I can't wait to show you pictures of it ... but I guess I will have to wait till Friday since I have to go back to work tomorrow and I won't have daylight to take photos of it until I'm home on Friday!

Carmel coffee and large red beads

Today my felt baby maryjanes made it into this beautiful treasury by http://www.etsy.com/shop/PetCollage# ... who makes fun, funky, fantastical collage paradise full of cats and dogs and bunnies and birds. The collages can be purchased as is or customized to include an image of your pet or a specific breed, with details added to celebrate an animal's special qualities. This makes for a unique gift for an animal lover that's for sure so make sure you visit her shop besides all the shops featured in the gorgeous treasury she made.

Some more funky, fun, green and gorgeous treasuries

I really never get tired of finding things I made in treasuries made by other Etsy artists. It amazes me how we all have our own take on the same items.

Here is one called "Funky Fresh like me" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/WiseSewcialTies featuring my little gray needle felted mouse with her piece of cheese who sells one of a kind gifts contrived from New,Gently Used and Vintage Fabrics. You will not see the same exact item made twice. Each gift is made differently with artistic twists. I love her shop, really cute things so make sure you go visit it. Here is the treasury she put together which is nice and sunny. Lots of cool items to check out and more stores for you to visit, I'm sure you'll find something you like.

This one is called "16 under $16 - Fun Edition", very clever treasury with lots of fun items for a steal I must say all under $16! My little robo hamster house, also called Critter Onion is featured in this one.

Spring Wings by http://www.etsy.com/shop/FavorFancyAndFun is featuring my little needle felted bird. I love the cute items in this treasury, so much fun! Make sure you visit her shop for some really cool handmade favor boxes for your special occasions.

This treasury "Someplace, Sometime" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/LibertyOriginals who makes and sells beautiful jewelry. This treasury is part of the nonteamchallenge 20. I looooove this treasury, not just the color combo but all the items in it. My felted baby shoes are part of this gorgeous treasury.

Another one called "Blue and Brass" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/vickiorion who's life revolves around the beauty and sparkle of gemstones and the luster of freshwater pearls. She also featured my crocheted baby shoes, they seem to be a good fit for this week's nonteamchallenge item because of the blue color. Lots of beautiful blue items in this treasury, I never get tired of the color blue.

The last one for today is called "Irish for a Day" made by me! I've been making lots of St. Patrick's Day signs at work so my mind has been on "green" A LOT! Kind of a nice change from all the Christmas and Valentine reds I must say. Enjoy!

More lovely treasuries, soaps and the colors of a rainbow

It is so interesting to me to look at all the different treasuries Etsy artists create based on just one item. This one is called "Blue World" made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/BUBBLECITYSOAP also based on the same leaf pendant I made my "Spring in Paris" treasury around. She ended up going for all blue colors. She sells beautiful luxurious soaps which make great gifts for birthdays, wedding and baby shower favors and lots more so make sure you visit her shop. My baby booties are featured in this wonderful "BLue World" together with lots of other beautiful things!

Then I found my nuno felted wrap being featured in this treasury called "Primary Maddness" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/jjoycedesigns who sells lovely wreaths, owls, wildly primitive kitty cats etc. This is what she says about her treasury: "We taught first graders about primary and secondary color mixing and had the kids prove that the 3 primary colors could not be mixed using the other colors. You had to be given the primary colors. A philosophical discussion then began with speculation as to where the primary colors come from. Best suggestion? They come from the rainbow. So here's my Primary Madness Treasury straight from the rainbow." I love the bright colors in this treasury. I have the tendency to go for the more softer colors for some reason. If I use brighter colors I jump out of my box ... which I know is a good thing to do once in a while.

Time for another treasury! Here is my nonteamchallenge 20

This week's inspiration item is a beautiful necklace featuring an image of a tiny leaf against the background in cambridge blue color. The leaf is adorned with a filigree pendant base in antique brass. Simple and sophisticated by http://www.etsy.com/shop/smafactory?ref=seller_ another cool shop on Etsy.

For those of you wondering what on earth a treasury is and what this non-team-challenge on Etsy is all about click on this link http://treasurychallengenonteam.blogspot.com/ and it will tell you all about it. I've truly enjoyed making these treasuries and not having to commit like you would have to if you become a member of any other team.

Hope you enjoy this week's treasury! Now I need to get busy working on some more projects.

Knitted baby hat with matching booties

I wasn't going to make another wintery set but I forgot I had knitted this little hat a couple weeks ago so I went ahead made some matching booties. Then I couldn't decide to leave it all one color so it could work for a boy or a girl so the set sat on my studio table for a couple of days and I finally decided to add some color to them. I still have a boy set in my shop on Etsy so I figure I might as well add some flowers to this one. The flowers are from synthetic material and are cinched over an open flame.

A lovely "fabulosity" treasury, an oily kitchen floor and being a Member of the Day on Handmade Spark!

When I got up this morning and went through my routine of checking e-mail, facebook etc. I found myself listed as the Member of the Day on Handmade Spark! yeahhhhh, that just made me smile the entire day. Here is the link to it if you would like to check it out. http://www.handmadespark.com/blog/handmade-spark-member-of-the-day-bitsoffiber-crochet/ Handmade Spark is a marketing service for handmade sellers, and a creative blog for the indie and handmade community. They connect and promote. You design and inspire. When I got home from work I found my needle felted hedgehog family in this lovely treasury called "fabulosity" by http://www.etsy.com/shop/dottyral on Etsy. Lots of pretty browns in this one. Make sure to visit all the shops listed in the treasury to find even more lovely items in all the shops represented in it.

So while cooking dinner this evening I reached for a bottle of vegetable oil and before I knew it I had it and then I didn't and as if in slow motion the darn bottle just slipped out of my hand and fell over. Miraculously I was able to grab it before it totally emptied onto my hardwood floor in the kitchen and dining room!!! Our dog who always lays in the doorway between the kitchen and the dining room jumped about 3 feet in the air when the slippery mess fell onto the floor, the doorframe, the kitchen cabinets AND his favorite toy ... his little monkey! He tried saving it from the oil but decided to just leave it be ... since mom was already reaching to save him ... which I did! His monkey will need a bath that's for sure. Good thing I just both a huge bottle of hardwood floor cleaner the other day, I certainly needed it. I wasn't sure if it was going to clean up this oily mess but it did very nicely I must say.

More treasuries to share!

Here are two more treasuries I want to share.

The first one is made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/6catspinNsew who sells unique, one-of-a-kind wallets, Ipod and glasses cases, ring bearer pillows and garters. I love the combination of hot pink and black in the treasury she put together. My felted baby shoes are very happy to be part of this but do visit all the other shops that are part of this lovely treasury, I'm certain you can find something you would like to purchase!

This next one is made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/gizmofiberarts who sells original knit and crochet patterns as well as very pretty place mats, coffee sleeves, edgings as well as vintage gizmos and vintage clothing. Make sure you check out her shop besides all the shops who have items listed in this fun and cute spring gifts for kids treasury. My pink knitted child bonnet is featured amongst all the other cute things so go and have a look.

If you're into toadstools have a look!

I made these baby shoes out of a recycled sweater but being who I am I can never leave anything plain and simple I always have to add layers of stuff on top of things to keep myself happy. At first I wasn't sure what to put on them but I wanted it to be something that could work for a baby boy and a girl as well so I thought toadstools should work. Here they are amongst 15 other toadstool related items in this beautiful treasury. When you click on any of the items listed in the treasury it should take you to that artists' shop so you can view more photo's and get all the details on that specific items as well as on other items for sale by that artist. Enjoy all the little white dots!

Yes, it will be summer soon! Hot Pink Summer Baby Dress

Yes! Finally finished this sweet little baby dress http://www.etsy.com/listing/68440024/pink-daisy-baby-dress and put it in my shop a few minutes ago. I used to sew a lot many years ago. My "bompa" (grandfather) on my mom's side was a tailor, my "bomma" and my mom where all great seamstresses so I guess you can say I got that in my blood. Now I found out after years of making some of my own clothes and then my daughter's that I really didn't like just sewing with fabric. What I finally figured out was that I just don't like to follow specific patterns and I hate having to sew long straight sections. What I do like to do is combine my knitting and crochet work with fabric which this little dress is a good example of. I figured I'd start making some more similar things like this for my Etsy shop with summer around the corner it will be a nice change from all those baby booties, baby shoes and hats. I'm also working on some kids toys but that's another story. Here it is ... my hot pink daisy baby dress!

Love those baby seals

My needle felted seal called Kalika is featured amongst a big seal family in this cute treasury made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/lailakujala who's Etsy shop has some beautiful nature inspired paintings, prints and jewelry. Go and have a closer look at all the sweet seals listed in this treasury.

A woodsy wedding treasury

This week's inspiration item for the non-team-challenge 19 treasury on Etsy is a beautiful 14 karat gold leaf ring by http://www.etsy.com/shop/ValerieKStudio where you can find some more of her beautiful jewelry. So I thought about what theme I should use for this week's challenge. I thought of all kinds of themes but this ring just screamed wedding theme to me and so it was. Here is the treasury I made using the ring as the starting point. I had some trouble finding the right things, I had pictures in my head of what I wanted to use but for some reason I just couldn't find anything to match what was in my head ... I hate it when that happens. Anyway, it still turned out alright I think.

Spring is in the Air

What a lovely day it was, I was able to go spray paint at work today without TWO jackets on! Kinda felt like spring is just around the corner so I decided to make another treasury. The non-team on etsy has come up with some new ideas such as making treasuries not related to a challenge but anytime you like it, as long as you use items from some or all of the nonteam shops that have participated in the past challenges. This one I made today has items from only nonteam shops. This was actually a challenge for me putting this together having to look through each shop and decide what to pick was a heck of a lot more limited compared to when I do it using items from all shops on Etsy. Anyway, here is the treasury I came up with. I kept it light and spring-y, hope you like it.

Oops, almost forgot about this one ... another treasury I made up not related to any challenges or the nonteam. This one was just because I was in the mood to create something pretty. It's had a lot of views which surprised me ... I guess a lot of folks like to move to the country! (That's the title I gave this treasury.)

And one more I made also not related to any challenges or the nonteam, this one was in celebration of Valentine's Day.

So many cool treasuries!

I really want to thank all of the Etsy artists who pick some of my items to make these gorgeous treasuries. It makes me smile every time I get a message letting me know I've been featured in a treasury. What's interesting about these treasuries is how people look at the things you make and where they think they might fit in. You have to go look at all the cool, fun, unique, crafty, artsy and funky items in all of these shops. Here are some of the latest treasuries I've been featured in.

This one is called "Bold Options Abound" in which my red scarf with needle felted cats and kittens is featured, by http://www.etsy.com/shop/jjoycedesigns. If you like cats, owls, stars and other country style items hurry up and visit her store I bet you will find something you like.

This one is called "Textile Dysfunction" in which my needle felted baby sealion is featured, by http://www.gigimari.etsy.com. Her Custom Fine Art shop specializes in original art, giclée prints, personalized stationery, note cards, custom invitations, photography, logos and other handcrafted paper goods. You can also join her on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fine-ArtFine-Things

This one is part of the nonteamchallenge 18 treasury in which the cupids' arrow ring was the item you need to build the treasury around. This one was made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/StoneSavvyJewelry who's shop has some lovely jewelry for sale so go and have a look. She named this treasury "Hey cupid watch out for the critters when you shoot that arrow", it's a darling treasury with all kinds of sweet handmade critters including my needle felted hedgehog family.

Here is one called "They Travel in Groups" really beautiful treasury made by http://www.etsy.com/shop/MollyFinds# and featuring my felted baby shoes. Her store called MollyFinds featuring: vintage collectibles, items for your home decor and collectibles that have a story of their own. Retro kitchen, collectible pieces and antique prints.

This one is called "Love, Hearts and Passion" by my friend Missie http://www.etsy.com/shop/MissieRabdau who sells unique, romantic, fun, elegant, stylish, chic, fashionable, distinctive handcrafted jewelry. She featured my felted baby shoes and lots of other gorgeous Valentine related items.

And last but hopefully not least ... here is my entry for this week's nonteamchallenge 18 treasury on etsy. I called it "Hearts and Kisses". Have a wonderful day.

A cute valentine bird, a pair of felted slippers and another hat

I've been working hard on getting something new in my shop for valentine's day so I made this little felted bird. I wasn't sure what else to do with him until he landed on this wooden heart I had laying on my studio table and voila ... added a magnet with a thimble, a bit of bird seed and we have a cute little pincushion ... of course you can just have him sitting around without poking him with pins or needles. He will make the perfect gift for somebody who loves to sew, quilt, craft or a pincushion collector.

I had made these brown and creme color wool slippers a while ago and hadn't done anything with them. I finally made the time to crochet some acorns which I also fulled in the washing machine and then attached to the slippers. I added some anti-slip dots with some fabric paint which is an easy way to do that.

I forgot I had knitted this hat a long time ago, I just never listed it in my shop, but it is now.

The bird is in my PurplePlatypus shop on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/listing/67443462/needle-felted-valentine-bird-on-a-wooden and the slippers and hat are in my BitsOfFiber shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/67456723/multicolor-youthteenager-ski-or

Baby hat and booties gift set, another treasury full of love and a dead fish

I'm always multi-tasking ... but sometimes it's better not too! Today was one of those days, you know the days I'm talking about. A million and one things on the to-do list and only 24 hrs in a day to get it done. So while I'm making dinner my kid decided to clean the big fish tank we have. I love looking at the fish but I hate cleaning the tank, always have always will ... heck I rather clean toilets then having to clean that tank. I think it all has to do with access to the darn thing. It's a very tall tank you see which makes it hard to clean. But my kid is taller then me now and can easily reach the bottom so she has taken on the job of cleaning the tank. I end up putting water back in it but that's the easy part. So while she was busily working on cleaning it I was making dinner while all the fish were removed and sitting in a bucket on the counter top, so Azriel and River (our cat and dog) wouldn't get the crazy idea to play with them. Well about 30 min later, dinner had been eaten and the tank was ready to get filled up with more water I stepped back into the kitchen to find one of our fish dead on the floor!!! So, I've given up on fish, my beta I replaced about a month ago, well his replacement decided he didn't like his new tank and died as well. I can't figure this out. We've always had fish and had them for years, for some darn reason we keep ending up with dead fish, which is a bummer because I do like my fish it's cleaning the tank I don't like.

Anyways, enough about dead fish ... I finally got a chance to take some pictures of my latest knitted baby hat and booties. These are really small so they are for a preemie or a newborn. I do love the colors I used in this set.

And a pair of my felted baby shoes made it in a treasury on Etsy entered into the nonteamchallenge 16 by http://www.etsy.com/shop/birose?ref=pr_shop_more. Check out her etsy shop which has all kinds of lovely button yoyo jewelry and gifts. The treasury is all about Valentine's day so check out all the cool items and shops that are listed in this one.

Alice Springs Beanie Festival - Emu Hat

A friend of mine commented on one of my profile pictures which is a photo of a hat I made a couple of years ago which I entered into the Alice Springs Beanie Festival (http://www.beaniefest.org/). I think that was the 3rd year I entered the competition and every year I tried to make a silly hat. Well I've always had a hard time making things look funny and/or silly. For some reason my stuff always ends up looking more realistic and elegant I've been told. I guess that's a compliment but believe it or not ... I used to get very frustrated by trying to make a cool, silly and crazy looking hat or beanie. Now the year I entered this one (2008) I had no clue on what to make but it had to be something related to emu's. I did have a big bag of real emu feathers stashed away in my closet and then I found this bag of metallic thread/yarn my mother-in-law had given me and I had no clue what to do with .... until that day! I started crocheting with no real pattern in mind, also didn't bother to match any of the threads, I just used them as they came out of the bag and voila ... this is what I ended up with. As I moved along making this I wasn't sure on how I would be able to attach a bunch of feathers to it so in the end I ended up crocheting a weird kind of thing for the top in which I could push the feathers into and attaching them with glue. I must say I thought it looked pretty silly, now my dear husband and child didn't think it looked crazy enough but that's the best I could do so I entered it just like that. It didn't win anything but it did sell which made me very happy ... at least somebody else out there thought it was pretty (and silly) enough to spend their money on it. I do wonder where it might be and what kind of person purchased my emu hat ...

100% calorie free cupcake!

I totally agree my kid is a much better baker then me but I must say I make great calorie free cupcakes ... give me a pair of knitting needles and some yarn and voila ... a chocolate cupcake, vanilla frosting and a cherry on top! Sorry, it's not eatable but it makes for one cute baby hat that's for sure. Just listed it in my Etsy shop so check it out.

So earlier today I discovered I had knitted 2 left baby booties ... I do get annoyed when things like that happen especially since I was trying to finish them so my husband could take them to the fire station as they are a gift for somebody. Oh well I guess they will have to wait another day. I figure I will now knit 2 right booties so I have one pair for the gift and another pair I can list in my shop. Now I feel much better about knitting 2 left booties earlier today. :0)

Yummy Cupcakes

My daughter loves to bake. I must say she's a better baker then me and we figured out why. I dislike following recipes just like I don't like to follow patterns. Now she always follows the rules (well most of the time!) with everything so when a recipe calls for certain things in certain amounts she measures it to the T. I usually add, subtract or mix things up on my own, now sometimes that works but other times it turns into a disaster especially with cookies and cakes. Hers turn out wonderful just like the ones you see in this picture. She was home from school today ... yes we had another snow day here in Fauquier county, so she had to find something to do. These are banana spice cupcakes (made from scratch) with cream cheese frosting and chocolate branches (which she made from scratch, her own recipe!). I'm so proud of my kid. At 14 she can cook and bake just about anything you ask her too. She shared with me that if for some reason becoming an equestrian vet doesn't turn out she has a back up plan ... opening a Patisserie. I told her I will be her first client!

This week's entry for the nonteamchallenge 13 on Etsy!

This week's item for the challenge was a pair of pretty earrings by etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/64077261/salvaged-copper-and-turquoise-earrings?ref=tre-4d27c88936b86d91d08eb77e-6 made out of reclaimed roofing copper and turquoise! I wasn't too sure at first which way to go with my theme but finally ended up with this one:

Needle felted mom and baby hedgehog

I had made one of these last year and it sold so I thought I'd better make another one, this time I included a baby! They make really cute pin cushions or if you feel bad for poking them (hehe) you can have them just sitting around looking cute. They look really cute in a baby room so those of you looking for a unique baby shower gift this is it! As a matter of fact any of my felted animals would make a cute baby room decor. The baby hedgehog will easily fit into your pocket so if you want a pocket size conversation item he will be happy to be carried around. I do not recommend them to be purchased as toys for babies. Older kids should be fine.

I just listed them in my PurplePlatypus etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/listing/65442343/needle-felted-hedgehog-mother-and-baby so go and have a closer look!

Recycled newspaper and a pretty treasury

It's amazing what people come up with! I wanted to make another treasury today and wasn't too sure what to base it on so I just picked two colors black and yellow to begin with and then tried finding some other items in a color scheme close to the ones I had picked. I always like the look of old newspaper so I tried that and voila ... it worked.

When we lived in Alice Springs, Australia my daughter made a purse by weaving pages of used magazines together using a nifty craft tool specifically designed for doing so. The tool was for weaving and glueing the strips together she actually made the little purse which is so cool. The handle is actually braided and the sides of the purse are coils of paper. I think she did a fantastic job! She was only 10 at the time.

Here is the treasury I made today with items made out of recycled newspaper mixed in with yellow and black items.
