Toadstools or Mushrooms or Championnekes

What's a mushroom?  "They describe a variety of gilled fungi, with or without stems, therefore the term is used to describe the fleshy fruiting bodies of some Ascomycota.  These gills produce microscopic spores that help the fungus spread across the ground or its occupant surface".

Mushrooms or toadstools have always caught my interest (see needle felted toadstools earrings I used to make or the baby shoes with needle felted toadstool designs I've created in the past) but never to the point to go foraging for them.  I'm too scared to end up picking a poisonous one.

While taking these pictures I started thinking about "Toast Champignon" my mom used to make and while I'm not crazy about eating mushrooms that did make my mouth water!  I found a recipe on a Flemish site: https://dagelijksekost.een.be/gerechten/toast-champignon.  My mom used to make it with some kind of Alfredo sauce which toned down the flavor of the mushrooms a bit.

The reason I'm talking about mushrooms is because I found these beauties in my yard a couple of days ago after storm Isaiah came by.  The ones in the backyard I had to get rid of because I have two dogs that love to nibble on grass.  I wouldn't want them accidentally eat one of these since I know some of these are poisonous!

I think the lighter colored ones are "parasol" and the darker ones
"shaggy parasol" but I might be wrong I'm not a mushroom
expert!
I did find a page that talks about these and if that's what these are they are edible ...
but trust me I'm not going to try to eat them, better safe then sorry.
Here is the link to the article on how to cook them if that's what they are:

I think these are called "Yellow Patches" or Amanita flavoconia
Poisonous

When I went searching on the internet to find out what these were called I ran into this article "15 worlds funkiest fungi"   OMG!!
Here is the link to it:  https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/89768/15-worlds-funkiest-fungi
Mother nature doing her thing!

So guess what I'll be making for dinner!?  Toast Champignon ... but definitely with store bought championnekes!

Some new items added to my shop and another treasury for the nonteamchallenge 30

I've been busy finishing up projects I've started some of the a couple of months ago and I have more to come. But for now I have another baby boy hat/cap I crocheted which you can find for sale in my http://www.etsy.com/shop/BitsOfFiber shop on Etsy and a pincushion with lots of cute toadstools I needle felted which you can find in my http://www.etsy.com/shop/PurplePlatypus?ref=ss_profile shop also on Etsy. The pincushion also includes 3 pins which I decorated with toadstools I made of polymer clay. If you like toadstools then have a look at this blog http://www.make-it-do.com/celebrate-it/the-woodland-party which has the cutest cupcakes ... and you guessed it ... they are decorated with toadstools but it has some other really cute ideas for a woodland party so make sure you check it out.

I'm also including a picture of the treasury I made for the nonteamchallenge 30 on Etsy. I love entering this challenge on a weekly basis, they give you an inspiration item which is an item picked by the shop owner who won the challenge the week before. I think it's a great way to keep this going without having to belong to an actual team. If you go to http://treasurychallengenonteam.blogspot.com/ you can read all about it. I have more treasuries to share with you in which I've been featured but that will be for later this weekend. And before I forget HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all you mother's out there! Hope you have a lovely day. I do have to work on this day but I do love my job so I'm not fretting having to go to work on Mother's Day.

If you're into toadstools have a look!

I made these baby shoes out of a recycled sweater but being who I am I can never leave anything plain and simple I always have to add layers of stuff on top of things to keep myself happy. At first I wasn't sure what to put on them but I wanted it to be something that could work for a baby boy and a girl as well so I thought toadstools should work. Here they are amongst 15 other toadstool related items in this beautiful treasury. When you click on any of the items listed in the treasury it should take you to that artists' shop so you can view more photo's and get all the details on that specific items as well as on other items for sale by that artist. Enjoy all the little white dots!

Baby Shoes with Needle Felted Toadstools

I decided to make another pair of soft baby shoes from some wool recycled sweaters. I had made a similar pair of these but they went to Belgium. The toadstools are needle felted with merino sheep's fleece. I attached some strips of velcro to open and close them fast and easy, plus it makes them more adjustable for narrow or more chubby baby feet. I just listed them in my http://www.etsy.com/shop/BitsOfFiber shop.

Recycled sweaters turn into Toadstool baby shoes!

So instead of using felt I made myself I decided to use some of my stash of fulled sweater which I use for making mixed media cuffs and pincushions. Of course I couldn't help but putting something on them using the needle felting technique. I wanted to use something that would work for a boy or girl so therefore the toadstools. The closure band looked kinda heavy and took away from the more dainty toadstools so I made it narrower by using the pinking shears on them and needle felting some dots on it which made them look a lot better. I got about 2 other designs in my head for some more fun little shoes like this but first things first ... I need to finish needle felting this owl I started a couple of weeks ago. Poor thing is missing eyes, a beak and his wings need to be attached so off I go. Hope you like these little forest shoes! Find them in my BitsofFiber shop on Artfire if you're interested in purchasing them. Thanks for stopping by.
