Doggie cookies in my air fryer
I have 3 dogs, a Corgi, an Australian Shepherd and a mutt (shepherd and chow mix). Just like humans they all have different personalities, and different tastes in food and treats. And of course there is always at least one that's allergic to certain things which made it hard to find treats that all 3 of them love, doesn't give them the runs or the itchies. I figured I might as well try to make some myself knowing what all 3 of them like and what's healthy for them.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup white flour
- 1/2 cup steel cut oats
- 1/2 cup of brown rice flour
- 3/4 cup pumpkin puree (NOT the premixed pumpkin for pies!)
- 1/4 cup Camelina Oil (also known as false flax oil)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
Instructions:
Mix all the wet ingredients in a bowl (egg, pumpkin, camelina oil).
Add the spices (cinnamon and ginger) and stir until it's all nice and smooth. I just used a fork but you can use an electric mixer, whatever works best for you.
In another bowl combine the white flour, the oats and the brown rice flour with a fork or wooden spoon.
Start adding the mixed dry ingredients to the bowl with the wet ingredients. I stirred it with a fork adding about 1/2 cup at a time until it was getting too hard to use the fork so I just switched to using my hands and shaped the dough into a ball.
Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes. I just cut them in squares of about 1.5 inch x 1.5 inch.
Preheat your air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for a couple of minutes then place your cut-outs in the basket of the air fryer and bake for 10 minutes.
After the first 10 minutes turn all of the cookies over so they will bake more evenly and bake for another 10 minutes but at a lower temperature of 320. My air fryer runs pretty hot that's why I lower the temp for the last 10 minutes.
Remove the cookies and let them cool off on a rack. BUT REMEMBER if you have a counter surfer of a dog to put them up high or somewhere he/she can't reach them! LOL.
I usually keep half of the cookies in a tupperware container in the fridge and the other half I put in the freezer. I go through them pretty quick with having 3 dogs but they seem to keep well in the fridge for about 3-4 days, possibly longer.
I hope your pooches like these as much as mine do!
