Upcycled Recycled Blue Jeans into a Christmas Tree
This is my little tree I made using recycled jeans!
Not an exact tutorial but I will explain how I made it.
I used a styrofoam cone.
I cut random strips of the denim and used heavy duty cotton thread to gather each strip.
Each strip is roughly double the circumference of the area of the cone where I attached it.
I tied them all onto the cone as a test to make sure I had enough strips to cover the entire cone.
I then removed them all and laid them out in the order I took them off.
I used Aleene's original tacky glue but you could also use a glue gun with glue specific for styrofoam. I didn't have any of the low heat glue sticks so I ended up using the Aleene's glue.
I put glue on the underside of each strip as well as on top of the strip to keep it in place.
I found the easiest way to do this is to tie the strip onto the cone, flip it up like you see in the picture above, run a line of glue on the strip below it then flip the fabric strip down and kinda push the glue into the fabric.
I then ran another strip of glue on the top of the strip. I ended up doing this in between other projects so I would do 1 strip at a time and let it dry overnight.
The cone I used didn't have a pointed top so I ended up cutting the top of another cone and glue it to the top of this one.
I then took a round piece of denim and glued it over the tip.
I used a white matte paint to dry brush the tree. You could probably spray paint it as well instead of painting it by hand.
Once it was all dry I used glitter glue to go over the white paint. It really added a very pretty soft shimmer to the little tree. I'm not a big fan of a lot of glitter but I found the glitter glue easy to use and a lot less messy compared to using loose glitter. Again you could spray it with a glitter paint.
For the topper I used a wooden star button which I covered with white felt that I glued onto the button. I then used the same paint and glitter glue to cover the star.
I used a piece of metal wire that I put through the lower hole in the button and then just pushed the wire into the top of the tree to stay put.
And voila here is the little tree.
I had some mini lights with pearl attached that I wrapped the little tree with. It's a perfect little tree made out of all things I already had on hand.
Let me know what you think and show me yours!
